How we approach it

Security and efficiency start at the opening

In South Florida, windows are the weakest point of the building envelope. Beyond the obvious threat of flying debris during a hurricane, standard windows are responsible for massive heat gain and noise intrusion that makes your home feel less like a sanctuary.

We approach impact windows as a structural upgrade. It is not just about the glass; it is about how the frame is anchored into the buck and how that buck is integrated into your masonry or wood-framed wall to ensure water stays out and the window stays in under extreme pressure.

The byproduct of a proper impact install is a home that is significantly quieter, harder to break into, and cheaper to cool, with the added benefit of eliminating the need for heavy shutters every time a storm enters the cone.

When to call

Signs it's time

  • Visible condensation or fogging between glass panes
  • Wood rot or soft spots on the interior window sill
  • Drafts you can feel or hear during typical afternoon storms
  • Skyrocketing electric bills during the peak summer months
  • Existing shutters are rusted, difficult to deploy, or missing hardware
  • Fading on furniture or flooring near large windows

What the work involves

The breakdown

01

NOA-compliant measurement

Every opening is measured to the fraction of an inch to ensure the replacement fits the rough opening without excessive shimming that weakens the connection.

02

Buck and anchor inspection

We inspect and, if necessary, replace the wood bucking where the window meets the wall to ensure a solid, rot-free attachment point.

03

Waterproofing and flashing

Multiple layers of high-grade sealant and flashing are applied to prevent the common 'weep hole' leaks that plague poor installations.

04

Impact glass and frame install

Precision setting of the new unit with heavy-duty anchors driven into the structural members of the house.

05

Interior and exterior finish

Drywall and stucco returns are patched, textured, and prepped for paint so the new window looks original to the home.

Step by step

How a doors, windows & impact windows job runs

  1. 11 day

    Field measure and spec

We verify every opening size and determine the correct NOA (Notice of Acceptance) for your specific wind zone.

  2. 24-10 weeks

    Permitting and ordering

We submit plans for city approval while the manufacturer builds your custom units.

  3. 31-2 days

    Demolition and bucking

Old units are removed and the rough openings are prepped and waterproofed.

  4. 41-3 days

    Window and door installation

Units are set, anchored, and sealed to the manufacturer's exact specifications.

  5. 51-2 days

    Inspection and finish

The city inspector verifies the anchoring before we finish the drywall and stucco.

Example project

Whole-home impact conversion in a 1970s ranch

Coral Gables, FL5 days on site

The challenge
Original single-pane windows were leaking water during every summer rain, and the homeowner was physically unable to install their heavy shutters.
What we did
We replaced 14 windows and 2 sets of sliding doors with high-efficiency vinyl impact units, including structural repair to three rotted bucks.
The result
The home is now 40 percent quieter, insurance premiums were reduced by $1,800 annually, and the owner is fully protected without lifting a finger.
